OBA & DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel
The Amsterdam Public Library (OBA)
In the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel you'll find a collection of 500 books from the OBA. You can look at and read these books at your leisure in the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel; you'll find books that can be borrowed in the OBA branch around the corner: the Central Library, Oosterdokskade 143.
The OBA is a cultural institution where visitors can meet, spend time and relax. An extensive collection spread over 28 branches in Amsterdam offers something for every visitor. Those materials can be borrowed by members of the OBA; membership is free of charge to those aged 18 and younger.
The entire collection can be found in the Central Library (Oosterdokskade 143). This consists of seven floors and has a La Place restaurant, a theatre, exhibition spaces, student workplaces and lots more.
Activities
The OBA organises all kinds of activities for its visitors and members, in total around 7500 per year. This involves workshops, film viewings, exhibitions, readings and concerts. Every last Saturday of the month, for instance, there is a Coffee Concert in cooperation with the Conservatorium Amsterdam. Students present a light classical concert in the Central Library with music from all directions.
There are exhibitions to be seen in the OBA all year round. Ranging from exhibitions about Amsterdam and design to authors and illustrators. These exhibitions can be viewed free of charge, among other places, in the exhibition floor of the Central Library and in the other 28 branches spread across the city.
Last Minute Ticket Shop
In the Centrale Library there is also a Last Minute Ticket Shop (LMTS). Here, tickets for cultural events in Amsterdam can be bought on the day of the event at a 50% discount. The offering is updated every day on the website of the Last Minute Tickets Shop www.lastminuteticketshop.nl, at www.iamsterdam.com/en/whats-on and on the screens. Sales begin every day at 12.00.
