Reading large amounts of text on screen can be difficult for those with literacy and visual impairments. About 2 million people in the Netherlands have literacy problems, which is 1 out of 6 people!
BrowseAloud is a computer program that reads web pages aloud for people who find it difficult to read online. The program reads the content out loud and can provide visual aid by highlighting the sections and words being read. The website of the Amsterdam Public Library supports the use of BrowseAloud. Visitors of our website can download and use the program for free. By using BrowseAloud they can now read and understand the information that we offer on our website, making the website accessible to more users.
For more information on how to download and install BrowseAloud click on the ‘Read aloud’ section or the link at the bottom.
