Reading a book together with your baby or toddler - pointing out the pictures and reading the stories and rhymes out to them - reinforces the bond with your child. And children who have been read to as babies experience social, emotional and intellectual benefits later in life. In other words, when it comes to reading out to your child, you can never start early enough.
Based on this idea, BoekStart has been created (similar to Bookstart in Great Britain where it was first initiated in 1992): a national reading program that allows children aged 0-4 years (and their parents) to enjoy books and inspire children to develop a love of books and reading.
The OBA also actively participates in BoekStart in the form of various (musical) reading activities and the free BoekStart-koffertje. If your child becomes a member of the OBA before 18 months of age, you will receive a free OBA membership, and the free orange BoekStart-koffertje with reading books. Click here for the voucher.
