Enjoy your weekend with the free Sunday morning concerts by students of the Conservatorium Amsterdam at OBA Oosterdok! Lyric soprano Thalia Cook-Hansen and pianist Alex Wang met in Toronto, Canada and began performing together. Now they are both based in Amsterdam and are working to complete their masters.

Thalia is currently in the Dutch National Opera Academy in the studio of Jeanne-Michèle Charbonnet. This summer, she made her debut in the title role of Lucia in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor in Sicily, with conductor Kamal Khan. Other recent roles include Barbarina from Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro at the Estates Theater in Prague with conductor Timothy Long, Mademoiselle Silberklang in Mozart’s Der Schauspieldirektor, and Erste Dame in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. Thalia has performed solo and ensemble works in various venues around cities in New England, Germany, Czechia, and Austria.

Alex Wang is a pianist along with an avid fitness enthusiast; the physicality of his technique is balanced with introspective moments of performance. Alex not only has vast experience collaborating with instrumentalists and singers in both solo and choir settings but has a particular affinity for working with singers. Most recently he was a pianist at Songfest, and the music director/pianist for Nóżki Opera. As a soloist he was a repeat winner of first prizes in many local festivals, in addition he also competed in the Canadian Chopin Piano competition and the Canadian Music Competition, among others. He performed many times with CAST Philharmonic and played for recitals at the Consulate General RP in Toronto. Alex is a graduate of the Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance program at the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with Professor Daniel Epstein. He is currently pursuing graduate studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam under Frank Peters.
